Polish-born conductor Jerzy Semkow has earned international acclaim, conducting in the world's prestigious opera houses and directing major symphony orchestras.
He has been Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the National Theatre in Varsovia, the Royal Theatre of Copenhagen and the Royal Danish Orchestra as well as of the Saint Louis Symphony in the United States and the RM Orchestra in Rome. As guest conductor, he has appeared at the Scala Milan, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Bolshoi in Moscow, and the opera houses of Rome, Florence and Geneva. Maestro Semkow has also conducted major symphony orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Madrid, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the orchestras of Paris, Strasbourg, Lyon, Bordeaux, Monte Carlo, Jerusalem, Stockholm, Frankfurt, St Petersburg, New York, Cleveland, Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Washington, Cincinatti, Houston, Dallas, Pittsburgh and Minneapolis.
During his studies, Jerzy Semkow has worked with Serafin in Rome, Szell in Cleveland and Mravinsky, the Music Director of the St Petersburg Philharmonic, where Jerzy Semkow was Assistant Conductor for four years.
He has also made several recordings and has received Le Disque d'Or for his interpretation of Mozart's Symphonies. His recording of Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov for EMI and the recording of Beethoven works with the Saint Louis Orchestra and Choirs have received great acclaim.
