 David Grimal performs upon the magnificent ‘ex Roederer’ violin fashioned by Antonio Stradivarius in 1710. In 1996, he was awarded the European Prize for Culture during a special concert at the Muzikverein in Vienna. The same year, he also won the European Union Radio Prize. Winner of the First Prize for Violin and Chamber Music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris as a student in Régis Pasquier’s class, he deepened and enriched his musical personality alongside Philippe Hirschorn, Isaac Stern et Shlomo Mintz.

David Grimal is a regular guest of some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, such as the English Chamber Orchestra, Stockholm Chamber Orchestra, Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Orchestre philharmonique de Radio-France, Orchestre philharmonique de Strasbourg, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, I Musici di Padova, the Moscow Soloists and the Warsaw Symphony, and has (or will next season) worked under the direction of Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Lawrence Foster, James Judd, Mathias Bamert, Emmanuel Krivine, Gunther Neuhold, Youri Bashmet, Michael Schonwandt, amongst others.

He has also performed in some of the most prestigious venues, the Wiener Muzikverein, New York Lincoln Center, Ravinia Festival, Auditorium du Louvre, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Cité de la Musique, Salle Pleyel, Radio-France.

A recognized soloist , David Grimal also likes to recapture the intimacy and warmth of chamber music with such privileged partners as Georges Pludermacher, Gérard Caussé and Boris Berezovsky.

A CD of sonatas dedicated to César Franck and Richard Strauss, with pianist Georges Pludermacher (Harmonia Mundi label), and a Bach sonatas and partitas have been released this Autumn 2000. David Grimal has also taken part in the recent recording of Francis Poulenc’s Complete Works with EMI.
