BRIGITTE ENGERER |
Brigitte Engerer began piano lessons at the age of five and gave her first public concert the following year. She went on to study with Lucette Descaves at the Conservatoire National Superior of Paris and was awarded the Conservatoire’s first prize at the age of fifteen and a year later won the Marguerite Long competition in Paris. She continued her studies with Neuhaus at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow where she stayed five years. During her studies Brigitte won the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels.
In 1980 she was described by Herbert Von Karajan as one of the greatest young and major talent. In 1982 she performed with the Berlin Philharmonic (hundred birthday) conducted by Herbert Von Karajan.
Brigitte Engerer’s previous concerto work has included appearances with the Paris Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic (Lincoln Centre) conducted by Daniel Barenboim and Zubin Mehta.
An
immensely versatile artist, Brigitte has performed extensively throughout
Europe, Asia and the USA. Engagements have included appearances in New York at
the Carnegie Hall, with the Paris Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, the New
York Philharmonic, the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Los Angeles
Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra,
the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Symphony, Montreal Symphonic
Orchestra, Toronto Symphonic Orchestra, the Detroit and Minnesota Philharmonic
Orchestras, the
St. Petersburg and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo NHK Symphony, the National Orchestra of Belgium, Orchestra
de la Radio Tele-Luxembourgois, the National Orchestra of Madrid, the Barcelona
Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, conducted by Barenboim, Mehta,
Kondrashin, Neumann, Krivine, Maestro Rostropovich, Ozawa, Bertini, Chailly,
Rowicki, Leitner, Foster, Lopez-Cobos, Lombard, Commissionna, Fedosseiev,
Simonov, Plasson, Judd, E.Pekka-Salonen, Kitaenko, N.Jaarvi, Temirkanov and
Herbig.
Festival engagements have included recitals in
Wien, Berlin, La Roque d’Antheron, Aix en Provence, Colmar, Lockenhaus and
Monte Carlo.
She has performed Chamber Music with a number of
leading musicians including Olivier Charlier, Vladimir Spivakov, David Geringas,
Dmitry Sitkovesky, Elena Bashkirova, Jean-François Heisser, Bruno Rigutto,
Michel Beroff and Gérard Caussé.
Among her discography, her recording of Schumann's
Carnaval Op.9 and Carnaval de Vienne was awarded the ‘Grand
Prix du Disque’. Brigitte has
also recorded the integral of Chopin’s Nocturnes
(Harmonia Mundi), Tchaikovsky’s Concerto n°1 and Schumann’s Concerto
in A minor with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Emmanuel Krivine
(Denon), Rachmaninoff’s complete works for two pianos with Oleg Maisenberg.
